Lost Professions & Workshop
As part of our mission to preserve and sustain our natural and cultural local values through the Kapurcuk Culture and Gastronomy House project, we established the workshop section of our “Lost Professions” initiative.
In addition to visually presenting and explaining these disappearing professions, we created a dedicated space where practical training and hands-on workshops can also be carried out. We simply could not accept the disappearance of professions that once formed the foundation of trade and economy in our region and that carry traces of thousands of years of history within this geography.
As a continuation of the efforts initiated by Baysal Group for this purpose, we brought the Lost Professions Workshop project to life in the Marmaris Castle District. Through this initiative, we aim to pass on our country’s rich variety of traditional professions — many of which are on the verge of being forgotten — to future generations.
The masters of disappearing professions enriched and simplified our lives in countless ways through the products they created with skills earned through immense dedication, along with the tools and craftsmanship they offered to humanity for centuries.
Their knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship formed the very first foundations necessary for the advancement of modern civilization.
At the Lost Professions Workshop, research, archiving, practical and theoretical training programs, as well as production activities, will be carried out in order to preserve, develop, and sustain our cultural, traditional, and professional values, while also contributing to their continued growth and transmission to future generations.
As a result of Marmaris’ geographical structure, cultural heritage, and the needs of past generations, many professions that had been practiced for centuries are unfortunately now on the verge of disappearing due to technological developments and the disconnect between generations.
Through our Lost Professions Workshop project, we aim to prevent these traditional professions from vanishing. Thanks to the courses that will be held in our workshop, we will ensure that the knowledge and craftsmanship of the last remaining masters are passed on to younger generations through hands-on training.
In our workshop, where both practical and theoretical education will be provided, children and young people will not only contribute to their personal development and gain vocational skills, but also help keep the cultural values of Marmaris alive. In addition, various programs will also be organized for adults to help revive awareness and appreciation of these traditional professions.
We extend our endless gratitude to all masters of these crafts. We respectfully remember those who are no longer with us and honor the remaining masters with admiration and affection, hoping to come together with them again very soon.
